Most beginning songwriters and musicians have a very hard time at the outset trying to sing while playing their instrument. Learning to harmonize with your playing which involves either overdubbing a different instrument or learning to sing while playing can improve the outcome greatly. Frequency isolation specific to the other instruments is important as is the harmonics and frequency range of other instruments. What helped most was the use of effects pedal before going into the DAW and the use of Graham’s lessons on mixing. I have appreciated what I learned from Graham. I don’t use a summing box but have mixed using analog consules into tape as well as through and interface into a box. I wish Graham would also explainthe similarities between mixers and what they use to get that clarity of sound and warmth which he shows how to do in his lessons.
